The Madrid-MIT M+Visión Fellowship in Translational Biomedical Imaging

The Madrid-MIT M+Vision Consortium, a new multi-institutional venture in translational biomedical imaging, is seeking exceptional emerging talent from all over the world for the M+Vision Fellowship. The Fellowship leverages the resources of two great research communities, Madrid and Boston, for an experience that is:

+      Multidisciplinary: You will work with other Fellows and faculty from science, engineering, medicine, and business.

+      Flexible: The Fellowship offers stipend support, research funds, and lab choices throughout Madrid and Boston to enable maximum flexibility in project choice.

+      Focused on important problems: Your ideas and projects will evolve in response to major medical needs.

+      Designed by you: Fellows work individually and in groups to define and develop multidisciplinary projects, mentored by world leaders.

Program components include: short courses in medicine, imaging technology, and business; a lecture series by world-renowned leaders in imaging science; rotations in clinical departments; and idea generation mentorship. You will receive a generous stipend and travel expenses to cover a summer of structured learning experiences in Madrid, followed by a semester in Boston developing a research direction, and the launch of a research project (1-2 years in duration or longer) that shows the potential for global impact.

During the Fellowship, you and other Fellows from all areas of biomedical imaging will be immersed in a community that accelerates cutting-edge research in imaging, translates it from bench to bedside, and establishes new enterprises to strengthen Madrid’s position as a global biomedical research center. Your network will also include over 70 world-renowned professional researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from Madrid, Boston, and many other innovation-rich regions. You’ll be challenged to shape your own experience…and the future of biomedical imaging.

After the Fellowship, you will have new skills and perspectives in biomedical imaging, and strong relationships with academic and industry imaging leaders. You will be well positioned to continue your work in Madrid or elsewhere; to start a new venture; to attain a position in a university, medical, or research center; or to join a pharmaceutical, imaging technology, biotech, or biomedical devicefirm.

To be considered, you must have an MD, PhD, or 5+ years of work past a Bachelor’s degree; experience in some aspect of biomedical imaging; and fluency in English. I am building a new business here in Madrid. For now, I am looking to hire a 1x senior IT Project manager (5-10 years of experience) and 1x junior IT project manager / webmaster (2-5 years of experience) to support; both roles are based in Madrid.

Company

• The role is for my new company, www.microgame.it, a private equity owned (TPG and Monitor Clipper) B2B technology / service provider in the online gambling space.
• We offer all of the major online gambling products to 3^rd parties, so they can operate an online gambling business leveraging our technology platform and services.
• We are market leaders in Italy, profitable and focused on becoming leaders in the Spanish online gambling market.

Market

• Online gambling is a “hot market” in Spain: As you might be aware, online gambling will become legal from 1/1/12 and we want a piece of the action as new companies enter the space; fyi, the Spanish Lottery LAE will be going public in October, as the biggest IPO in Spanish history.

The role

• Functions:
  • Adapts the existing Microgame Italian-facing platform to the requirements of the new, Spanish online gambling regulations: Evaluates, monitors and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures;
  • Determines appropriate products or services with B2B customers to define project scope, requirements, and deliverables;
  • Purchases or contracts for IT services, equipment, products, supplies, property, or other items;
  • Basic qualifications for the roles:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Technology or related field
    • Project / IT management experience
    • Exposure to Gambling a plus, but not a must
    • Native Spanish, good English, ideally Italian
    • Ability to work / thrive in a start-up environment

• Existing team – Former consultant at The Boston Consulting Group with top Business School education and experience in retail banking and consumer goods.

LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES TO COMPLETE THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Desired characteristics in candidates
• Passionate individuals that can share our vision
• Hands-on, energetic individuals able to build the company from the ground up
• Strong functional expertise, with no industry experience mandatory but considered as a plus
• No necessary CXO previous experience, but rather potential for development into those roles while growing within the company

- Hands-on software architect as VP of Engineering -
Experienced and talented software engineer able to architect and design the system from zero in line with agile product development processes and current scalable solutions, with expertise in scripting but also server side programming, enterprise integration with partners, large scale web applications, managing offshore teams and able to perform in-house developments. Experience in online financial services is a plus.

- Payments expert as VP of Finance -
Financial services operations expert, able to define the transactional processes to be established and the integration with other vendors/partners, as well as manage the risks associated with payments.

- Regulatory expert as Chief Compliance Officer -
Hands-on regulatory and compliance expert, with experience in licensing and registering money transmitter businesses in US and Europe and setting up compliant systems and operations.

What we offer
• Be a key actor within a company that will transform the international money transfer industry, building a world class product and system from zero, side by side with a highly talented small team
• Substantial equity stake in the company due to such an early involvement. Very limited or no salary will be provided for the initial 6 months.
• A senior position in a high potential innovative company in a +$320b market
• Location: US Company, headquartered in the Silicon Valley. We will work as a virtual team during the 1st Year (July 09 – July 10). Then, we operate with two offices, one in the US and another in Europe (Spain).
• Expected commitment: Part time dedication during the first year, and full time commitment after July 2010, when Venture Capital will be raised
